Resolution Passes to Censor Jason Wentworth

During the June monthly meeting for the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee, the group unanimously voted on the resolution to censor Michigan Representative Jason Wentworth. The resolution is as follows:

Resolution of the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee Censure of Michigan Representative Jason Wentworth

Whereas in November 2020, Michigan Representative Jason Wentworth was elected by the Republican Caucus to serve as the Speaker of the House; and

Whereas on April 26, 2022, Speaker Wentworth unilaterally removed from the Republican Caucus another elected Republican, namely Representative Matt Maddock; and

Whereas Speaker Wentworth further removed Rep. Maddock from the GOP Legislative website, making it difficult for Rep. Maddock's constituents to stay up-to-date with their representative; and

Whereas not being a part of the Republican Caucus means that Rep. Maddock will not be a part of discussions regarding pending legislation or strategies to defeat Democrats; and

Whereas Speaker Wentworth 's personal actions are not in the best interests of unity within the Republican party, nor in the best interests of the citizens of Michigan, nor do they represent in any way the exercise of good judgment expected to be demonstrated by elected officials; and

Whereas Michigan's Republicans rely on our elected officials to represent us and protect us from petty actions by our elected leaders, particularly where those actions are seemingly designed to punish other Republican leaders with differing opinions; and

Whereas the purpose of the Republican Caucus is to allow all elected Republicans to freely express their opinions without threat of punishment,

Therefore, it is resolved that the Michigan 11th Congressional District Republican Committee calls on the Michigan Republican Party to censure Michigan Speaker Jason Wentworth and condemn his actions regarding Rep. Matt Maddock, as not supportive of the best interests and unity of the Michigan Republican Party, and

It is further resolved that the Michigan 11th Congressional District Republican Committee hereby condemns the above-described actions of Michigan Speaker Jason Wentworth.
